SAMMY FIGUEROA presents
A TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF CAL TJADER
featuring FELIPE FOURNIER
In this homage to the delightful music of Cal Tjader Sammy and his band offer a show that's equally entertaining and educational.  Cal Tjader was a successful West Coast jazz musician who was blown away on a visit to New York City when he heard the great mambo orchestras like Machito and Chico O'Farrill.  When he formed his first “mambo jazz” quintet he changed the sound of jazz forever.  The shimmering sound of Tjader's vibes mingling with exciting rhythms as played by Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo on Tjader's classic ‘60s albums became huge hits, selling millions and earning Grammys.   In tribute to Cal, Sammy has gathered master musicians, especially the exciting vibes virtuoso and Latin Grammy winner Felipe Fournier, to re create the cool, tropical sound of those albums.  Numbers like Soul Sauce (Wachi-Wara), Cuban Fantasy, Afro-Blue, The Continental, Mambo Mindoro, and Nights In Tunisia display the intoxicating mix of swing and harmony that Cal Tjader brought to his unique brand of Latin jazz.  Accompanied by multi-media visuals and a fascinating narration this show has already thrilled audiences at clubs like Judson's Live in Orlando and Dazzle in Denver, bringing audiences to their feet and smiles to their faces.
