Two years ago Sammy was so pleased to be invited to join Cesar as an actor in a preliminary workshop of this piece which led to performances at Dartmouth College and Lincoln Center. Now, Cesar has invited Sammy back as a performer and a unique part of the band in this mind-expanding presentation. Produced by Soho Repertory performances will begin on July 12th and run through August 2nd 2026. Sammy says, "It's exciting to be working with such creative and amazing actors and musicians, especially Cesar Alvarez himself who is completely unique and constantly creative.
NEW RELEASE BY SAMMY FIGUEROA!
Sammy Figueroa releases "The Continental", A Tribute to Cal Tjader
08.22.2025 In June 2025 Sammy Figueroa was pleased to be playing one of his favorite jazz clubs in the world: Judson’s Live in Orlando, Florida with his Cal Tjader Tribute Band. After one of the shows the illustrious recording and mastering engineer Bob Katz, who lives in Orlando, came up to him raving about the show and offered to mix a track for him if he had the recording available. As it happened the club had recorded all the shows in multi-track and soon made the tracks available to Sammy, Bob and Sammy’s producer Rachel Faro. “The Continental” was the most consistently played and recorded and so Bob made his magic and the single of the track was born. As it happened the club had also videotaped the show and we were able, with Bob’s brilliant assistance, to create a video in an unedited version of the same track as the single. Now Sammy and Cal Tjader fans can enjoy this great band’s performance and hopefully this will be the beginning of a whole album dedicated to Tjader. Musicians on this track include Latin Grammy winning vibraphonist, composer and arranger Felipe Fournier, the brilliant pianist Tal Cohen, Cuban drum virtuoso Rainier Guerra on timbales and Argentine bassist Agustin Conti.
